Royal Caribbean Group is the world’s largest cruise line and is actively expanding its Marine Technical Operations team.
The Role
The Ship Manager, Marine Technical Operations, drives ongoing engagement between the shoreside Marine Technical Operations organization and the senior Marine Management team onboard their assigned vessels. The role is result‑driven, thinks strategically, keeps the "big picture" in mind, and interacts frequently on an interdepartmental basis, both shipboard and shoreside.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Operational Management: Ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of assigned vessels and maintain productive dialogue between shoreside Marine Technical Operations and senior Marine Management onboard.
* Compliance: Ensure that assigned vessels follow all relevant regulations and standards.
* Budget Management: Oversee daily operational and financial management with a focus on OPEX, Repair & Maintenance, Consumable and Hotel Technical costs.
* Safety and Environmental Compliance: Implement and monitor safety and environmental compliance initiatives to remain within legal and regulatory requirements.
* Performance Monitoring: Review and analyze fleet performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions. Conduct regular performance calls with assigned vessels.
* Newbuilding: Oversee the guarantee process and handle claims with yards for assigned vessels.
* Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, regulatory bodies, and customers, and coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth technical operations.
* Project Management: Participate in special projects related to fleet operations, ensuring timely and successful completion.
Qualifications / Skills
* Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, preferably as a Naval Architect or Marine/Mechanical Engineer.
* Experience: 5–10 years with a shipping company, major cruise line, classification society or similar; experience as a Chief Engineer in a major cruise line is highly desirable.
* Financial Management: Proven ability to manage financial aspects, including identification of operating efficiencies.
* Disciplinary Process: Proven ability to administer disciplinary action through coaching and counseling to improve performance or address termination.
