This full time post is available on a fixed-term basis from 15 September 2025 to 31 December 2025.

Department of English and Creative Writing

The post of Lecturer in Creative Writing is based within the Department of English and Creative Writing, which is part of HASS.

We are a large and dynamic department with more than seventy academics from different countries around the world. Exeter is a UNESCO City of Literature and we are proud of the history of the Southwest’s literary culture and of our local archives that inform our research and our teaching. The role

You will have responsibility for the design, development and production of teaching and learning material and delivery across a range of Creative Writing modules. The undergraduate modules that you will be expected to teach are likely to include Write after Reading (EAS1042) and Building a Story (EAS2031).

The post will include the development and delivery of teaching and learning materials and the assessment of student learning on Creative Writing modules. You will be expected to lead seminars and/or workshops; deliver lectures; set assignments and assess students’ work; and provide academic support for students through our personal tutoring system. You may also be asked to supervise student projects and/or contribute to the delivery of postgraduate teaching.

About you

You will:

1. Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in Creative Writing, to develop teaching and teach and support learning
2. Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
3. Participate in and develop external networks: for example, to contribute to student recruitment, facilitate outreach work, or build relationships for future activities
4. Have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching
5. Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
