This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking Orthoptist with good clinical experience, knowledge, and excellent communication skills to join our friendly team of 7 Orthoptists, 10 Ophthalmologists, and 7 Optometrists based at the National Treatment Centre - Highland, Inverness.
We are a busy department covering the largest Health Board area in Scotland with a full complex caseload of all types of Orthoptic patients and involvement with the Glaucoma Monitoring Service.
The department provides clinics across several peripheral locations and offers a comprehensive Pre-school Orthoptic Vision Screening Service throughout the remote and rural communities of the Highlands, Western Isles, and Orkney.
The post involves travel across the Highlands of Scotland by road, air, and sea, with occasional overnight stays, requiring flexibility and adaptability. A full driving licence is essential.
The National Treatment Centre - Highland is a state-of-the-art Eye Care Centre at the University of Highlands & Islands Inverness Campus. We focus on patient-centred care and continuous service development. We welcome compassionate, thoughtful team players eager to expand their professional scope, working in a team committed to education and quality improvement. The site is a BIOS accredited placement location for Orthoptic undergraduates.
Applicants should hold a diploma/degree in Orthoptics with current HCPC registration. We consider applications from both newly qualified practitioners and experienced orthoptists. Newly qualified applicants will start on Band 5 and participate in the NHS Flying Start programme, with mentorship provided. Over 24 months, the post-holder is expected to progress to Band 6 to meet role requirements.
This is a permanent full-time position, 37 hours per week, aligned with service needs.
