Job Description
Purpose
The Systems & Components team delivers a wide variety of tests across multiple industries (automotive, defence, mass transit, aerospace), focusing on quality and durability of products. The rapidly evolving mobility landscape — electrification and automation — drives the need for innovative solutions to ensure products meet new user requirements. Our team works with customers to develop robust and reliable tests for changing use cases.
As a Technician within the Systems & Components team you will work with Engineers to develop and deliver tests across projects, from small upgrades to whole vehicle platform releases. You will create rigs to replicate in-service conditions and measure and report data to customers.
Technicians provide required technical support over three shifts to enable the laboratory to function effectively, adhering to procedures and health and safety guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Conduct tests/measurements and produce precise and reliable data.
* Monitor tests and complete comprehensive test logs.
* Install and connect instrumentation and test wiring.
* Operate data acquisition and equipment control systems.
* Design and manufacture rigs (with engineering support).
* Set up and fault-find test rigs.
* Follow procedures and carry out safety checks.
* Act in accordance with UTAC staff behaviours at all times.
Qualifications
* GCSE and above (HNC preferred).
Experience
* Essential: Experience in a workshop/laboratory environment; ability to use general hand tools.
* Desirable: Knowledge of sensor types and applications (accelerometers, thermocouples, force transducers); use of programmable/automated test systems.
Skills & Behaviours
* Strong organisational, analytical and attention to detail.
* Ability to find creative solutions to problems.
* Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Comfortable using computers, in particular Microsoft Office.
Other
* Flexibility to support test activity outside normal hours.
* Full UK driving licence and own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily accessible by public transport).
* SC clearance or ability to achieve (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years).
* Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
* Note: This position will be based on site and run across 3 shifts.
