An opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Audiologist to cover 12 months maternity leave, working 37.5 hours per week. The role will involve working Monday - Friday with the occasional Saturday morning. You will hold a BSc (Audiology) or equivalent and a Certificate of Clinical Competence (Audiology). Applicants who have been practising more than 12 months would be expected to be RCCP registered.

This vacancy is open to all internal / external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their manager's agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as it has been established to provide maternity cover for 12 months or when the substantive post holder returns. Whilst this post is advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.


Main duties of the job

Your main duties will include routine audiology work e.g., direct referral hearing aid assessments, the fitting and verification of hearing aids including open ear fits, follow ups, repairs, reassessments, and ENT clinics.

The department also offers a tinnitus counselling service, vestibular assessments, Learning Disability clinics and complex needs clinics. As a valued member of our team you will have the opportunity to contribute and to develop your skills in these areas.

Job responsibilities

Audiology services are based at The Thomas Linacre Centre and Leigh Infirmary. This is a busy, friendly department providing adult Audiology services to 3 ENT consultants and a population of 306,000 people.

We have IQIPs accreditation and are a very progressive department. We have excellent links with local social services, paediatric audiology and Manchester University. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our service and have won many Trust innovation awards.

This post will enable you to consolidate your previous experience whilst developing new skills. We have an established preceptorship programme and ongoing peer review designed to give support and encouragement in a structured approach. Staff also have annual individual performance reviews.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* BSc / MSc (Audiology) or equivalent BAA membership
* Certificate of clinical competence in Audiology or equivalent
* Clinical Educators Qualification
* Evidence of further training or research
* RCCP registration (candidates already in practice should hold this)


Experience

* Experience of working in an Audiology Department
* Experience in all aspects of routine Audiology e.g Hearing aid assessments, REM, fitting and rehabilitation, direct referrals and ENT clinics
* Experience in advanced Audiology work e.g Tinnitus, vestibular, severe/profound clinics


Skills

* Show initiative and have ability to work autonomously within the scope of the job description
* Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development and standards
* Motivational and organisational skills


Knowledge

* Maintain PDP / PPLA
* Knowledge and application of Tinnitus and vestibular assessment
* Knowledge and application of advanced features of digital hearing aids


Additional

* Produce high quality written communications e.g patient journals and referral letters
* Able to demonstrate effective and appropriate skills in communication with colleagues and patients
* Smart professional appearance
* Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation

Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a salary of £31,049 to £37,796 a year, pro rata.
