Job Title: Specialist Data Engineer
Full-time role
Working Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week
Salary: £64,575 - £70,000 depending on experience
Location: London Docklands (Hybrid).
The Financial Ombudsman Service has been resolving customer complaints since 2001. Our service is free for consumers to use and over 1 million people contact us every year.
The last few years have seen the Financial Ombudsman Service embark on an organisation-wide transformation journey. This year, we created our new Chief Data Office as part of redefining our data strategy across the organisation. With data playing an increasingly vital role in our transformation journey, the CDO is shaping a modern, cloud-first data landscape that supports innovation, enhances decision-making, and strengthens our customer-centric approach. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Data team at the Financial Ombudsman Service
Key Responsibilities:
1. Designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse and Databricks.
2. Contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of large-scale enterprise data platform solutions, ensuring quality, scalability, reliability and performance.
3. Implementing CI/CD pipelines for data solutions.
4. Building scalable data pipelines, utilising Azure Data Factory, Synapse and Databricks to build and maintain robust data pipelines that process and transform data efficiently.
5. Ensuring the team’s SLA obligations for data delivery, and reliability are met, and that incidents and requests are managed appropriately.
6. Collaboration and overseeing development and testing of data service improvements with cross-functional teams in all environments.
7. Overseeing code promotion process across the data platform solutions and environments, adhering to Service Management change process.
8. Partner closely with IT application and infrastructure teams in promoting; strong alignment to security and compliance, continual integration with source systems and efficient infrastructure resource management.
9. Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation and knowledge sharing including data flow/mappings, data dictionary, ERD related to the data solutions.
Minimum Criteria:
10. Experience in large-scale data warehouse/Lakehouse implementations, transitioning from SQL Server-based data warehouses. Strong ETL pipeline design and implementation skills.
11. Creating and optimising data models, writing complex SQL and Python queries.
12. Hands on experience with Spark and RESTful APIs
13. Solid knowledge of data warehouse and Delta Lakehouse technologies.
14. Experience working with Microsoft Azure and SQL technologies such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory.
Desirable Criteria:
15. SAP experience
