Kitchen Porter Team Leader – NEC, Birmingham

Role Purpose

As a Kitchen Porter Team Leader, you will ensure the smooth, efficient, and hygienic operation of the kitchen. You will lead and motivate Kitchen Porters, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety, and support the culinary team in delivering world‑class experiences.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead the team: supervise, motivate, and support Kitchen Porters, fostering a positive, respectful, and high‑performing team culture.
* Operational excellence: ensure all back‑of‑house areas, equipment, and utensils are cleaned and maintained to the highest hygiene standards.
* Training & development: provide on‑the‑job training, ensuring team members understand responsibilities and uphold Levy’s standards.
* Health & safety compliance: consistently follow health, safety, hygiene, allergen, COSHH, and manual handling procedures.
* Waste management: oversee efficient disposal of waste and recycling, maintaining a clean, safe, and sustainable kitchen environment.
* Support delivery & stock handling: coordinate team in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries, ensuring accurate rotation and food safety compliance.
* Communication: act as the key point of contact between the kitchen porter team and the chefs/back‑of‑house leadership.
* Problem solving: quickly identify and address operational challenges, escalating where necessary and driving continuous improvement.
* Role model: lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, reliability, and commitment to Levy’s values.
* Guest experience: understand the impact of back‑of‑house operations on front‑of‑house delivery, ensuring your team contributes to legendary guest experiences.


Person Specification

* Leadership skills: experience leading or supervising a team, motivating, coaching, and inspiring others.
* Attention to detail: meticulous approach to cleanliness and organization, upholding the highest standards.
* Physical stamina: ability to meet physical demands, including standing for extended periods and manual tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
* Reliability: dependable, punctual, and committed to consistent results.
* Adaptability: flexible and resilient, responding positively to changing priorities and demands.
* Time management: skilled at organizing tasks, prioritizing workload, and supporting team efficiency.
* Communication: strong interpersonal and basic communication skills, giving clear instructions and feedback.
* Team player: collaborative and supportive attitude, ensuring a positive and effective team dynamic.
* Work ethic: proactive, can‑do approach with willingness to go above and beyond when required.
* Experience: previous experience as a Kitchen Porter essential, with supervisory or team leader experience desirable.
* Flexibility: willingness to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and event days.
