Your mission
We are an ambitious stealth-mode startup developing the next generation of robotic wearables.
Your profile
Role Overview
* As our Clinical Orthotist/Podiatrist, you will:
* Lead the design and validation of custom insole shapes and stiffness profi les.
* Help defi ne clinical protocols for sensor calibration, gait trials, and user feedback.
* Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to translate clinical insights into product features.
* Ensure all designs meet regulatory and professional standards.
You’ll bridge the gap between cutting-edge wearable tech and evidence-based clinical practice, directly impacting user comfort, performance and health.
Key Responsibilities
Insole Configuration & Design
* Create and iterate multiple insole geometries, materials, and stiffness settings based on gait/pressure data.
* Specify corrective elements (e.g. arch support, heel posts) aligned with user biomechanics.
* Gait & Pressure Analysis
* Develop protocols for treadmill and over-ground gait analysis using our in-house technology.
* Interpret raw sensor outputs (e.g. force–time curves, pressure maps, COP trajectories) and provide actionable design feedback.
Clinical Testing & Validation
* Help in recruitment and conduct of user trials (healthy volunteers and target patient groups).
* Record and analyse outcome measures: pain scales, comfort ratings, biomechanical metrics.
* Produce formal reports for design iterations and regulatory submissions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Partner with engineers to defi ne actuation parameters (timing, force levels) for adaptable wearables.
* Work with fi rmware/software teams to validate sensor-driven algorithms
Regulatory & Professional Compliance
* Ensure all processes align with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) standards, UK MDR (Medical Device Regulations), and relevant ISO norms.
* Maintain clinical documentation, risk assessments, and design history files.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Professional Registration: HCPC-registered Podiatrist or Orthotist (or equivalent UK credential).
* Clinical Expertise: ≥ 3 years’ hands-on experience in orthotic appliance design, foot biomechanics, and gait analysis.
* Technical Acumen:
o Familiar with pressure-mapping systems and motion-capture / force-plate setups.
o Comfortable interpreting sensor data and translating results into orthotic designs.
* Wearable Tech Exposure: Prior experience or strong interest in integrating orthoses with smart/wearable technologies.
* Communication Skills: Able to present clinical findings to clinicians and engineers.
Desirable
* Postgraduate degree in Biomechanics, Clinical Engineering, or related fi eld.
* Experience with CAD software for orthotic design.
* Familiarity with basic programming (Python, MATLAB) for data analysis or rapid prototyping.
* Previous involvement in medical-device start-ups or R&D environments.
* Knowledge of machine-learning methods for gait pattern classification.
Why us?
* Impact & Ownership: Shape the future of health technology from day one.
* Flexible Working: Hybrid model with workspace access in London, plus remote days.
* Collaborative Culture: Small, passionate team of engineers, designers, and clinicians.
* Reporting Structure: Direct reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.
