Job Description
Senior Service Designer – Digital and Service Design, Digital and Technology Group (DTG). Full‑time, fixed‑term contract until 30 November 2026 based in 7‑8 Wellington Place, Leeds. The role supports a hybrid working model with a minimum of 8 days a month on site.
What’s the role?
The Senior Service Designer will grow and shape the user‑centred design practice at the MHRA, coordinating with customers, colleagues and stakeholders. You will lead user‑centred design activities, mentor team members, and deliver insights that help the Agency deliver great services and business benefits.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design of services on large or complex programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and strategic priorities.
* Guide, support and manage other designers within the core UCD team, including line‑management responsibilities for another service designer.
* Design in a user‑centred way, advocating for internal and external customers and incorporating their needs into digital services.
* Produce key service‑design artefacts such as service blueprints and customer journeys.
* Use research evidence and data to inform design decisions and work closely with user researchers to interpret findings.
Candidate Profile
* Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience in service design.
* Strong experience with a user‑centred design approach.
* Experience working in an agile delivery framework and with the GDS Service Standard.
* Proven ability to advocate for people and user needs, using research and data to influence stakeholders.
* Ability to explain design concepts clearly, including visualising, sketching and prototyping.
* Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting the development of other designers.
