Session Sister / Charge Nurse (Part‑time, 18‑month contract)
Lead a team of Donor Carers and Donor Care Supervisors, ensuring they are motivated, well trained, and capable of delivering excellent care. Foster a positive working environment, provide ongoing training and support, and address any team issues or concerns that arise. Use clinical expertise and judgment to assess whether potential donors meet the necessary health and safety criteria for blood donation.
Main Duties
* Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of our donors.
* Accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session.
* Ensure an excellent donor experience.
* Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
* Adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
* Maintain your professional development to help deliver improvements to our practice.
Working Hours
On a shift basis: 3 days per week / 6 days per fortnight. Early shifts start between 07:15 – 08:20 and finish 17:25 – 19:05. Late shifts start 10:15 – 12:10 and finish 21:05 – 22:05 (9.375 hour days). Shift times vary by location. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required, but no more than five days a week.
About You – Experience and Knowledge
* Demonstrate leadership qualities and understand principles of best practice to deliver high quality care.
* Experience supporting professional development of others.
* Understanding of clinical audit and research.
* Experience supporting improvements and change in practice.
* Awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
* Experience with Information Technology such as hand‑held devices and Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (adult).
* Full, valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
