Speech, Language and Communication Support Specialist – Primary School
Location: Old Swan, Liverpool
Start Date: October 2025
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term
Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Old Swan is looking to appoint a Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) Support Specialist to join their team from October 2025. This is a key role in helping pupils develop the communication skills they need to access learning, build relationships, and thrive both academically and socially.

Working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff, you will support pupils across EYFS and Key Stages 1 and 2 who have identified SLCN. You will implement targeted strategies and work on individualised support plans to help children improve their expressive and receptive language, social communication, and confidence.


About the role

* Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions to support children with SLCN
* Follow tailored communication plans and work alongside external speech therapists
* Support pupils with speech delays, articulation difficulties, selective mutism, or social communication challenges (including ASD)
* Assist with the assessment and monitoring of progress, recording outcomes and feeding back to staff and families
* Promote inclusive classroom practices and raise awareness of communication needs across the school team

The ideal candidate will

* Have experience supporting children with speech, language and communication needs in a primary setting
* Be confident delivering structured interventions and following specialist programmes
* Have a good understanding of the communication milestones and challenges in early years and primary education
* Be able to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies
* Be patient, empathetic, and adaptable in their approach
* Hold relevant qualifications or training in SLCN (e.g. Elklan, SaLT assistant training, or relevant SEN CPD) – desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
