GLL is currently recruiting for a Senior Library Assistant working 24 hours a week to join the team at Grantham Library. Grantham is one of our busiest libraries giving access to a wide variety of collections and resources including books, self-service technology, public access computers and a local studies collection.
With community at the heart of everything you do, as a Senior Library Assistant, you’ll ensure that every visitor to the library is welcomed into a clean, safe and attractive environment with useful facilities that keep them wanting to return. As a key frontline staff member, you’ll adapt to, and acknowledge, the diversity of our visitors and what they aim to get out of their library visit as well as helping them to discover our wide range of resources and services. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will be apparent as you help people do everything from discovering new authors to tracking their ancestry from our records, devising and delivering engaging activities for children and families and even helping them find their ideal job using our IT systems.
What you need:
1. Experience working within libraries (desirable)
2. Evidence of making a difference to customers
3. Confident IT skills and knowledge
4. Excellent numeracy, literacy and communications skills
5. Administration skills
6. Experience of using Library Management systems, would be useful
7. A real focus on customer service
8. Passion and personality
9. Evidence of being organised and efficient
10. Customer Service Qualification (desirable)
11. Be a great team player
What you’ll do:
12. Work as part of the team to ensure the smooth operation of the library
13. Provide a warm welcome and genuine goodbye to all customers, providing guidance and support on how to get the optimum results from their visit by truly engaging with customers to understand the reason behind their visit
14. Devise and deliver imaginative and fun children’s activities including story and rhyme time and craft activities for under 5s
15. Follow Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults’ policy and procedures
16. Follow all Normal and Emergency Operating Procedures as well as adhering to relevant polices and manuals
17. Interact with customers through conversations and supporting their needs
18. Support customers with all queries available at the library
19. Fully participate in and engage in the any training provided

Thursday 8.30am - 6pm
Friday off
Saturday 8.30am - 4pm
