This role seeks a self-motivated candidate to manage engineering projects end-to-end across Thames Water’s operational sites and estate. It covers all aspects of each CAPEX project, including initial scoping, competitive tendering, contractor procurement, site setup and inductions, health and safety inspections, commissioning, training and handover to operations teams. Internal job title: “Project Engineer” within the Capital Maintenance Project Team.
Responsibilities
* Manage and deliver a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical and ICA projects, with a typical value between £100,000 and £1,000,000 per project.
* Hold responsibility for multiple live projects concurrently, with additional projects in scoping and tendering phases.
* Develop innovative and modern solutions to operational problems to improve site efficiency and deliver value for customers.
* Collaborate with operations teams and contractors to scope, define and cost solutions that are cost-effective and have minimal risk.
* Oversee health and safety compliance on projects, including undertaking monthly audits.
* Ensure project construction aligns with in-house policies and procedures, is fully compliant with CDM regulations, and follows applicable industry standards.
* Work with delivery partners and contractors to ensure schemes are delivered on time.
* Maintain compliance with Asset Standards and relevant British & International Standards and professional codes of conduct.
* Forecast and report on the value of work for all live projects (VOWD).
* Draft, vet and approve pre-construction information, project programs, RAMS, and construction phase plans (CPP).
* Oversee commissioning, training and handover of completed projects to operations teams.
* Ensure completion documents are available and handed over, including test certificates, operation and maintenance manuals, health and safety files, and as-constructed drawings.
Location and travel
Base location: Bracknell. Travel to Basingstoke, Fleet and Farnborough up to 5 days a week may be required. A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and appropriate work insurance are required. A car allowance is paid monthly.
Working hours
Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
What to bring to the role (essential criteria)
* Preferably a background in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical). Formal qualifications in these sectors are strongly encouraged (ideally a BTEC/HND or relevant experience).
* Knowledge of Clean Water Processing and/or Wastewater treatment is beneficial.
* Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders (internal colleagues, site employees and external contractors).
* Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and use initiative to deliver high-quality work.
* Understanding of Health and Safety standards, with reference to CDM; additional training will be provided.
* Experience in Construction or Engineering Project Management.
