Job Summary
:
This position is for a Systems Engineer who will work a multi-year contract on a United Kingdom (UK) nuclear infrastructure programme for which Bechtel are providing the Project Management and Engineering services. This project is at the conceptual design phases driving a programme involving a multi-billion-pound investment in nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
The Systems Engineer will be a proactive and driven individual who will support the Systems Engineering Lead as the representative for systems engineering and design coordination activities. You will assist in the systems engineering efforts, which may include the delivery of documents, execution of schedule activities, quality checks, and overall project delivery. You will be involved in preparing reports, studies, and systems engineering documentation. In addition, you will participate in design reviews, and assure comments are addressed by facilitating their resolution to the satisfaction of the reviewers for the delivery of approved products.
You will have the ability to work independently, use engineering judgment, and devise new approaches to solving problems. In addition, you will help others and respond to requests for help in solving technical or procedural problems or issues. You will be responsible for assisting with discipline work process execution in a technically adequate manner and in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Develop system models using Model Based Systems Engineering methods and tools (e.g., Enterprise Architect, SysMOD, Polarion, IBM® Rationale DOORS®)
2. Support the Systems Engineering Lead to define facility / system functions, behaviours, and other design requirements, prepare the criteria documents and coordinates and facilitates technical discussion to resolve system design issues.
3. Support the Requirements Lead with the coordination of system-level requirements capture, design verification, requirements verification, test requirements specifications, and requirements flow down and traceability.
4. Provide technical assistance to other Systems personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
5. Aid engineering management in identifying and complying with project Systems requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
6. Take the initiative in the coordination with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates.
7. Participate in 3D Model reviews.
8. Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP), as well as reviewing compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
9. Review deliverables from other disciplines, and suppliers during the execution of the project, to assure that designs are integrated between Process, Plant & Equipment and Building & Services and design intent has been adequately incorporated into the facility design.
10. Identify issues (risks and value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the concept design work.
11. Responsible for developing and updating interface control documents and associated Stakeholder requirements.
12. Support informal studies and technical briefing with customers, suppliers, and other departments and disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
13. A recognised bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
14. A minimum 2-5 years’ industry experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
15. Knowledge of systems engineering a benefit, ideally within a nuclear or other highly regulated environment.
16. Experience working within a nuclear site a benefit.
17. Ability to produce high quality, complex documentation.
18. Experience facilitating multi-discipline meetings to resolve technical and related requirements compliance issues.
19. Ability to read and understand engineering documents and drawings.
20. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
21. Excellent organisational skills.
22. Relevant industrial experience. General nuclear experience a plus.
23. Must be able to obtain a SC Clearance for access to the AWE Site.
Other
The role will be based primarily at Aldermaston UK, however travel to Bechtel’s London office (near Covent Garden) may also be required. Flexibility in work locations includes three days per week working at the project site and two days working from home or the Bechtel office. This arrangement will change as project needs adjust.
