Elementa are recruiting for a SEMH/SCLN Learning Support Assistant for this Special Provision in Taunton that caters for children age 11‑16. The students attend the academy with an EHCP to support their SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) and SCL (Speech Communication Language) needs. Your role will support the teaching staff in providing a high‑quality provision for all young people.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide academic and pastoral support to students to enable them to overcome any barriers to achievement within their provision.
* Liaise with teaching staff to plan and develop appropriate resources to enable young people to fully access all activities and make good progress.
* Share strategies for support with support staff and teachers.
* Work as part of the team that responds to challenging behaviour.
* Provide information, advice and structured support to enable students to make positive choices about their behaviour, attendance and social interactions.
* Assist in developing strong links between the school and families to improve educational opportunities for students and promote a positive attitude towards school.
* Comply with confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
* Contribute to the monitoring, recording and analysis of the welfare and daily experiences of our young people.
* Model high standards and be a positive participant in a culture of sharing good practice among all staff.
* Contribute to the whole‑school rewards system.
* Support young people to develop a wider educational, social and cultural understanding of life.
* Monitor the individual health needs of young people and communicate those needs to other staff as appropriate.
Qualifications
* Previous experience of working in a specialist provision, or similar, is essential.
* Experience dealing with challenging behaviour.
* Updated Enhanced DBS on the update service or a current Enhanced DBS subscription.
