Chief Cardiac Physiologist (CRM)

We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. Our department offers a wide range of investigations and is looking to expand our team of multi‑skilled cardiac physiologists as our invasive services grow.
We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow‑up service. The post holder will also rotate through all aspects of the department, including our 24/7 PPCI service. We are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs with an extensive remotely monitored patient population.
Applicants should have extensive bradycardia and complex pacing post‑qualification experience (remote monitoring and FSN management), a BSc in Clinical Physiology/HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration is desirable. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Further post‑graduate learning for CRM (HRUK/IBHRE) is also essential. Successful applicants would be expected to potentially rotate across both sites.

Main duties of the job
* Provide clinical management, education and support in cardiac rhythm management services, working alongside other physiologist leads to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service.
* Undertake, supervise and teach at a high level with simple and complex Pacing/ICD/CRT implants, and support PCI and diagnostic angiography.
* Demonstrate competency in CRM implants, including complex devices and autonomous follow‑ups.
* Maintain a progressive learning environment within invasive cardiology, ensuring the development of all staff.
* Work within a 24/7 PPCI service and work weekends on a rotational basis as part of on‑call duties.

Job responsibilities
Clinical duties and responsibilities: Participate in the provision of cardiac rhythm management, including remote monitoring service, FSN management and technical invasive cardiology service. Assist during the full range of cardiac procedures undertaken within diagnostics and the angiography suite. Maintain standards of technical competency in all technical cardiac procedures (invasive and non‑invasive). Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate. Respond to emergency situations promptly and professionally. Diagnose equipment faults and report them in a timely manner. Provide first‑line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests performed, whilst reviewing and assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff members. Keep up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology and translate these into practice. Assist with research studies as required. Ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care. Undertake service provision and training in other areas of Clinical Physiology, as required. Participate in the 24/7 on‑call service provided by the Clinical Physiology department, as required.
Managerial responsibilities: Ensure timely and accurate data entry on the invasive database and produce statistical records and audits when required. Deputise for the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist when necessary for department management. Manage junior cardiac physiology personnel and assist with the recruitment and retention of staff within the Clinical Measurements Department. Assist with all aspects of the organisation and performance of the invasive angiography service, including management of the primary PCI rota and service for physiologists. Work with the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist to ensure procedures are in place to achieve government targets in Cardiac Physiology services. Assist in the development of protocols, guidelines and policies within the department to achieve IQIPS accreditation. Implement and ensure adherence to local policies and guidelines, incorporating current professional recommendations and evidence‑based practice. Work in accordance with standards set by SCST and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP). Be familiar with Cerner, Solus and Pacenet and any other computerised systems integral to the running of the department. Communicate with manufacturers/suppliers regarding stock and equipment management, ensuring adequate stock control and economical use of supplies. Manage own time to balance clinical and administrative duties. Authorise agency/overtime/sickness in line with local policies. Undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist or his deputies.
Personnel responsibilities: Conduct oneself in a professional manner and act as a role model to junior staff at all times. Supervise training, development and appraisal of professional competence of all staff within one's area of responsibility. Demonstrate leadership and achieve good morale with open communication between all levels of staff and disciplines. Contribute to and actively participate in the correct reporting and handling of incidents and accidents.
Educational responsibilities: Participate and commit to maintaining own personal professional development, identify educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the Operational Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist. Maintain professional accreditation through appropriate Continuing Professional and Personal Development. Ensure mandatory training is up to date. Participate in the training and development of local competencies of junior staff within the department. Maintain a progressive learning environment for all grades and disciplines of staff within the area of responsibility. Support a rigorous training programme within the department, ensuring all physiologists attain state registration.
Administrative responsibilities: Register patient attendances on the department’s Solus database. Book appointments onto Solus, facilitating patient choice. Order portering services on Cerner to facilitate movement of patients and equipment. Communicate efficiently on the telephone with all staff, patients and visitors. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the department. Use equipment and resources cost‑effectively. Telephone patients who fail to attend for their appointment, rebooking patients as per patient choice, and telephone outstanding returns of ambulatory monitors. Amend patient bookings to reflect any changes in their procedure from that initially booked onto the database.

Experience and Knowledge
* Extensive experience in cardiac rhythm management, including remote monitoring service, FSN management and general physiological measurements
* Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiology with competency in simple and complex PCI and simple/complex device implants
* Experience participating with 24/7 PPCI service
* Demonstrate competency to lead in ECG, ETT, ambulatory monitoring, pacing and complex device follow‑up
