Job Summary
Ophthalmology with Special Interest in Oculoplastic. We are currently seeking a motivated Clinical Fellow with an interest in Oculoplastic within the Ophthalmology Service at The Royal London Hospital.
This is a unique opportunity to gain advanced subspecialty training in all aspects of Ophthalmology within a major trauma centre. The ophthalmology service works closely with the Oral & Maxillo‑facial, ENT and Plastics services undertaking joint operating lists, clinics and MDT meetings.
International/EU Candidates must hold a GMC registration or have their PLAB 1 & 2.
The Royal London Hospital eye department has a busy service with existing consultants sub‑specialising in medical retina, cataract, cornea, glaucoma, oculo‑plastics, paediatrics and Neuro‑ophthalmology.
The post will be based at RLH supported by consultant colleagues, the trust and trainee doctors, optometrists, orthoptists and Nursing staff.
The team consists of 10 Consultants supported by Clinical Fellows (Medical Retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplastic, Paediatrics), Specialist Trainees and Trust doctors.
Main Duties of the Job
* Supporting growth of service while maintaining RTT 18 week performance.
* To support the Adult Ophthalmology Service including Cataract & Oculoplastic at the Royal London Hospital.
* To participate in emergency ophthalmic care and the 3 tier on call rota (support the 1st on call rotation rota, 1 in 7).
* To actively participate in clinical trials, research, audit and teaching.
* To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of your patients.
* To respond to queries from patients, general practitioners and colleagues.
* To assist the SDM with complaint responses, when identified within the complaint.

Job Responsibilities
* Patient examination requires working in uncomfortable positions such as leaning forward, kneeling, squatting whilst maintaining awkward posture, especially with babies in buggies or persons in wheelchairs, while manipulating clinical equipment with both hands.
* Manual handling required, e.g., movement of patients from wheelchairs to examination chairs, movement of equipment, visual field machines and moving wheelchairs.
Person Specification
Essential
* Qualifications: GMC registration or must have PLAB 1 & 2
* Experience: Working in a busy eye department / on-call rotation
* Knowledge: Minimum 2 years ophthalmology experience and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
* Skills: Working in multidisciplinary teams, training junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals, clinical governance including audit, communication, IT skills
* Record keeping: Clear legible clinical record keeping
Desirable
* Higher degree or ophthalmology fellowship
* Previous participation in clinical trials
* Prior research experience
* Publications in peer reviewed journals
* Experience with management of ocular trauma (surgical) and acute emergencies
* Experience with using paperless electronic patient records
