Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 DOE
An established building services consultancy in Rochester is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with proven residential sector experience to lead mechanical design delivery on a wide variety of projects, contributing to innovative, efficient, and sustainable building services solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design process on residential building services projects from concept to completion.
Produce detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic water, and public health systems.
Manage project delivery to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with current regulations and standards.
Coordinate closely with electrical engineers, architects, and other design professionals to achieve integrated solutions.
Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections to support design development and review installations.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support their professional growth.
Liaise with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality service.
Key responsibilities:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the building services industry.
Demonstrable experience in delivering residential projects (e.g. housing developments, apartment blocks, or mixed-use schemes).
Strong understanding of Building Regulations, CIBSE standards, and relevant design codes.
Proficient in mechanical design and calculation software such as AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, or Revit.
Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
Working towards or holding professional registration (IEng or CEng) with a recognised institution is desirable.
