Job overview We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic engineer to join our Electro-Biomedical Engineering (EBME) team to carry out maintenance / repair on a wide range of diagnostic medical devices across the county of Warwickshire. If you have experience in electrical/ Mechanical engineering and are interested in technology, science and healthcare and want to be part of an ever increasing and developing technology sector then this is the perfect opportunity for you. You will be expected to have a BTEC ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or possess the required level of experience in maintaining and repairing microprocessor based electrical electronic equipment. Evidence of good practical skills, a sound knowledge and an understanding of maintenance is a prerequisite of the post and you will be expected to demonstrate this at interview. Duties include being responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of the Trusts & external clients medical devices including carrying out inspection and electrical safety checks periodically. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out these duties autonomously and work to frequent deadlines whilst maintaining a professional approach. Applicants should have an adaptable, flexible approach to work and be able to demonstrate they can work very well within a team as well as being able to use their own initiative. Advert To be a member of the team in the ‘Electro Bio Medical Engineering Department’ providing a comprehensive maintenance and support service for a wide range of medical equipment both within the Trust and out in the community. This post carries additional responsibilities as an engineer for ensuring the upkeep of a defined equipment range and to identify any risks associated with the use of medical devices. Working for our organisation SWFT Clinical Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT). The company provides a number of services such as outpatient pharmacy facilities at Warwick and Stratford and Nuneaton hospitals; estates and facilities management at Stratford hospital, Acorn House and Lillington Health Hub; private patient service and consultancy services to NHS Trusts. Subject to the Company and individual’s performance, an annual discretionary bonus will be awarded. There is automatic enrolment to the Company pension scheme, with the Company contributing 5%. Detailed job description and main responsibilities To undertake maintenance of medical equipment following and meeting defined quality procedures accredited to ISO9001:2008. The required work will involve in-depth fault finding to board/ component level utilising test equipment and hand tools as appropriate. To perform all necessary work within the department and to be flexible when demands upon the department requires a fast response to emergency situations. Certain activities will require handling and lifting of medical and other devices utilising the appropriate handling equipment as provided. The post requires that specialist knowledge and skills exist covering maintenance and repair of portable mechanical/ electrical electronic equipment. This will include the responsibility for formulating work instructions, planning repair methods and ordering any necessary spare parts. The post will involve activity throughout the Trust including out in the community. Where work is undertaken in clinical areas, and especially when attending to equipment connected directly or indirectly to patients, it is expected that a courteous and sensitive manner is maintained at all times. The post holder will be expected to work with compressed medical gas and associated regulating devices, observing safety procedures at all times and will be expected to provide technical assistance and advice when dealing with the decontamination of equipment. It is a requirement that the Trust’s procedures on equipment decontamination be followed at all times for both personal and patient safety. To operate as an ‘independent practitioner’ undertaking all assigned work without immediate supervision utilising spares and collaborating directly with manufacturers / suppliers as necessary To undertake electrical safety tests and visual inspections of medical devices following the latest guidelines principally on the Warwick Hospital site but also on occasions, at other locations. Appropriate test equipment will be provided. To generate and maintain records relating to equipment that is commissioned, serviced or condemned. This will include inputting service report records into the departmental database for equipment history and financial purposes. To carry out acceptance testing of equipment to establish its compliance with statutory, safety and departmental requirements. This will include equipment ‘on trial’ and in this situation, it is expected that an evaluation is carried out and made available to ward and departmental managers as required. To liaise directly with medical, nursing and other staff, providing advice on the state of repair of medical and associated IT equipment. To propose and be prepared to implement, changes to departmental working practices and to assist the EBME Manager in the preparation of reports and feedback following equipment commissioning, service, evaluation or failure. To identify any associated risks relating to the use of medical devices and to carry out necessary corrective actions resulting from manufactures / regulatory bodies field safety notices. To ensure efficient utilisation of spare parts and to monitor stock control – raising purchase order requisitions as necessary. To undertake training and development as required, both in technical matters related to the work of the department and any mandatory courses e.g. fire lectures. To ensure at all times that work is performed in accordance with health and safety legislation, statutory requirements and other regulations that are applicable to the department function. To undertake any other tasks as required by the EBME Manager in accordance with the grade and nature of the post. The post holder will be a member of a mobile team and as such may be required to undertake his/her duties anywhere within the district as and when the need arises. A department van is provided for this purpose for which a current driving license is required.
