The role will be based in the Solihull area and the successful candidate must have travel to operational sites on a needs basis.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate and lead on environment & sustainability requirements associated with the STRABAG UK Build Division while assisting the Director of Environment and Sustainability in continually improving the Management System in line with ISO 14001, ISO50001, PAS2080, etc.; undertake assurance visits and provide Environmental advice and support to Business Unit employees.
* Advise and support Project Management and Supervisors in discharging their responsibilities towards the environment and respond to queries or correspondence on environmental issues.
* Ensure employees are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and understand the requirements of the Group Environmental Procedures and Guidance Notes.
* Lead on work-winning elements related to environment and sustainability, drafting PQQ & ITT responses, developing programmes and coordinating with wider multi-disciplinary teams.
* Oversee the delivery of projects from an environment and sustainability perspective, ensuring that environmental subcontract services are in place to support delivery.
* Undertake regular contract and environmental assurance activity to monitor compliance with environmental legislation and Company environmental procedures, and ensure environmental controls are in place and working.
* Undertake due-diligence reviews of project information, identifying necessary permitting and consenting requirements while developing plans and managing stakeholders to facilitate delivery.
* Log, monitor and investigate environmental incidents and non-conformances; ensure major environmental incidents are reported appropriately.
* Collate Business Unit / Contract Environmental and Sustainability statistics in a timely manner and submit for reporting purposes; review statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
* Develop and implement Project / Contract Environmental campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Head of Environment and Director of Environment & Sustainability.
* Produce Contract Environmental Management Plans and other contract-specific environmental plans and/or site-specific environmental instructions.
* Identify significant environmental impacts for contracts and help set up contracts to include appropriate controls.
* Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.
* Provide Project Managers with regular and accurate details on all environmental matters affecting their contracts; identify employees that require environmental training, provide relevant training and maintain records of training provided.
Qualifications
* Degree Qualified (or experience equivalent to a degree).
* Strong experience in Environmental Management within the construction industry.
* Good understanding of environmental legislation relevant to the construction industry.
* Good understanding of the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard.
