Are you looking to make a difference to stroke survivors in Warwickshire? This is an exciting opportunity for a committed, organised and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the community stroke service in our South Warwickshire locality team, currently based at Leamington Hospital, for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
In this post you will be working within a large multidisciplinary team of therapists and assistants from different disciplines including Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dieticians and Psychologists. The post holder will provide assessment and rehabilitation within two distinct care pathways: Active Rehabilitation and Neuro Management. The varied role offers an opportunity to further develop specialist clinical skills in the area of stroke.
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with considerable skills and experience in the assessment and treatment of stroke patients. A passion for working with people, excellent communication skills, flexibility, good time management and organisational skills are essential. The post holder will be required to travel, so the ability to do this independently is essential.
You will receive support through appraisal, supervision, team meetings and access to in‑house training.
Main duties of the job
* Provide effective service delivery and be responsible for junior Occupational Therapy staff within the speciality.
* Manage an agreed caseload of patients within the service speciality area.
* Assist senior staff in meeting recognised professional standards, agreed therapy pathways and best practice.
Job responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Deliver a high standard of Occupational Therapy intervention and maintain service delivery by flexible, effective and efficient prioritisation.
* Apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act to gain consent for intervention.
* Negotiate with client/carer to identify and formulate SMART goals and complete outcome measures.
* Select and apply standardised and non-standardised Occupational Therapy assessment tools.
* Plan, implement and review patient-centered individual and/or group assessments and interventions.
* Interpret and analyse complex clinical, social and environmental factors to recommend the best course of intervention and develop treatment and discharge plans.
* Have a detailed working knowledge of relevant external agencies and Trust policies to refer patients effectively.
* Be safe and competent in the use of all equipment for daily living, evidenced in the individual Medical Devices Log.
* Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics, Conduct and Standards for Occupational Therapy.

Communications and Working Relationships
* Develop effective therapeutic relationships through verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
* Be an accredited Occupational Therapy fieldwork educator and support fieldwork placements.
* Provide opportunities for teaching and training of staff, students and other professionals.
* Contribute to the induction of new Occupational Therapy staff and students.
* Facilitate identification of training needs of junior and support staff through appraisal and develop the training plan.
* Notify the Principal Occupational Therapist of staff absences when senior staff are unavailable.
* Deputise day-to-day operational management of senior staff in their absence.
* Provide Occupational Therapy expertise at local and regional working parties or meetings to develop, implement and redesign service delivery.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* State Registration with Health Care Professions Council
* Postgraduate experience/training in clinical speciality
* Management training
* Member of Professional body (COT)
Experience
* Sound clinical experience/training within area of speciality
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising junior OT staff
* Experience of Health and Safety legislation/risk assessments
* Experience of providing clinical education to junior staff and students
* Experience of clinical audit and/or leading a clinical project
Skills
* Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions relevant to speciality
* Comprehensive clinical experience & knowledge of OT models of practice and outcome measures
* Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload
* Ability to work autonomously and manage an independent caseload of complex cases
