Job Summary
The Kingston GP Federation (Kingston GP Chambers) is recruiting an experienced Practice Nurse on behalf of Canbury and Berrylands surgery. The role is full‑time or part‑time and is based in the Kingston area. Both practices are rated 'good' by the Care Quality Commission and provide high‑quality, compassionate care in a friendly setting.
Responsibilities
* Deliver a high standard of patient care using autonomous clinical skills and a broad knowledge base.
* Deal with presenting patient needs in a primary care setting, ensuring effective response to patient needs and facilitating patient choice and easy access to services.
* Promote healthy lifestyles and participate in national immunisation and screening programmes.
* Enable patients to manage their long‑term healthcare needs and achieve full potential in independent living.
* Carry out all duties in accordance with the NMC Code of professional conduct and relevant local and national policies, guidelines and protocols.
* Undertake clinical duties in cervical cytology, immunisations, ear care, minor injuries, phlebotomy, wound care, travel health immunisations and advice.
Essential Duties
* Cytology and sexual health screening, asthma reviews including inhaler medication advice (non‑prescribing).
* Wound care and removal of sutures.
* Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations.
* New patient medicals/urinalysis.
* Travel health counselling.
* ECGs and venepuncture.
* Hypertension management.
* Ear syringing.
* Assist with minor surgery, including requesting pathology tests such as urine culture and swabs.
* Provide chronic disease management and contraception services.
* Follow agreed clinical protocols with referral to other team members and GPs as appropriate.
* Ordering vaccinations to maintain stock levels and participate in administrative systems.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure proper completion of all necessary documentation.
* Assist in protocol formulation and pathological specimen handling (including blood samples, swabs and smears).
* Participate in education and training of students across all disciplines.
* Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff, respecting confidentiality.
Person Specification
* Registered General Nurse (currently registered with the NMC).
* Post registration experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience working across organisational boundaries within health and social care.
* Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of own clinical practice.
Knowledge and Skills
* Understanding of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
* Knowledge of relevant legal issues such as data protection and confidentiality.
* Understanding of equal opportunity and diversity issues.
* Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
