Role Overview
As Assistant Manager, youll support the General Manager in the day-to-day running of the pub, ensuring excellent customer service, smooth operations, and a positive working environment. Youll be a visible, friendly presence on the floor, leading by example and helping our team deliver exceptional experiences for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Community Engagement
Lead from the front by providing warm, attentive, and personal service.
Build genuine relationships with regulars and help foster a friendly, community-focused environment.
Handle customer queries, complaints, and feedback in a professional and proactive manner.
Operational Support
Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cashing up and end-of-day reports.
Help oversee stock control, deliveries, cellar management, and ordering as required.
Ensure all areas of the pub are clean, safe, and operating efficiently.
Maintain high standards of presentation throughout the venue and garden.
Create ideas for special events and help organise parties and events throughout the year.
Work closely with the Head Chef to provide the best food & service to our customers.
Team Leadership
Support, motivate, and guide bar and floor staff during service.
Assist with training new team members to ensure consistent service standards.
Help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture.
Manage team rotas
Compliance & Safety
Uphold licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and food hygiene standards.
Assist with record keeping, incident reporting, and compliance checks where needed.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Previous experience in a supervisory or senior bar role.
Confident leading a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service skills with a naturally friendly and approachable manner.
Reliable, organised, and comfortable taking responsibility.
Knowledge of cellar management and basic stock control.
Willingness to work evenings & weekends.
Desirable:
Experience working in a community-led or local pub setting.
Personal Licence (or willingness to work towards one).
Experience in organising events.
