Overview

There is an exciting new opportunity for a joint Consultant Clinical Scientist post in Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) Midlands and North West Hub and the Biochemistry and Immunology department, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW). The BCSP hub is one of five national Hubs in England and invites 1.8 million subjects per year to participate in the screening programme. The Deputy Director will support this service, clinically lead the service with the Director and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure a safe service that actively works to improve screening uptake and reduce health inequalities.

The Biochemistry and Immunology Department is part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology (CWPS) networked service, covering four hospital sites: UHCW, Rugby Hospital, Warwick Hospital and George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton. You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 2 Principals and 3 senior Clinical Scientists. The department aims to develop specialist services and expand its repertoire.

We are seeking an enthusiastic addition to help achieve strategic goals for both services, which have undergone changes over the last few years.

Responsibilities

* Have responsibility for instigating, and contributing to leading and managing a high quality, automated Clinical Biochemistry and Bowel Cancer Screening Hub (BCSH), scientific service encompassing adult, paediatric, and laboratory information services within Coventry and Warwickshire under the leadership of the Clinical Lead for Biochemistry and Immunology and Hub Director.
* To work closely with BMS staff, Clinical Scientists, fellow consultants, management colleagues, Clinical Head of Service for Pathology, Head of CWPS Operations, Hub Manager, Group Director of Clinical Diagnostics, Finance manager, colleagues in Primary Care, neighbouring secondary and tertiary Care providers in the pursuance of the operational and strategic objectives.
* To provide support for the processes required for maintaining UKAS accreditation and other regulatory requirements relevant to the clinical services.
* Ensure an effective communication system is developed for our users and is maintained so that all relevant information is passed to service users and clinical partners in an appropriate and timely manner
