Position Overview
A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The Occupational Therapy team at Queens Hospital, Burton is looking to appoint an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner with a passion for acute orthopaedic and general surgical care. The role involves holding a varied clinical caseload in an acute multidisciplinary setting, leading discharge planning for elective hip and knee joint replacement patients and working with trauma ward patients and those undergoing orthopaedic care.
Additional responsibilities include preoperative assessment, leading group education classes, and providing intervention to patients on General Surgery wards alongside multidisciplinary team members. The service operates a 7‑day service, requiring flexibility.
Responsibilities
* Assessment and treatment of patients with a wide variety of conditions.
* Close multidisciplinary team working and discharge planning in a high‑pressured environment.
* Contribute to supporting students on placement.
* Lead discharge planning.
* Deliver group education classes to those undergoing elective surgeries.
Requirements
Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a passion for acute orthopaedic and general surgical care. A willingness to work flexible hours across a 7‑day service is required.
