Work Days: Monday - Friday. Work Hours: 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Location: 1115 Mission Rd., San Antonio, TX 78210.


Mission

The Mission of St. PJ's Children's Home is to be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time.


Summary

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Lead Medical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of medical services provided to UAC, including the hiring, training, and supervision of medical staff. The Lead Medical Coordinator uses sound medical and professional judgment and best practices to support the medical, safety and well-being of UAC in care while maintaining compliance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy. The Lead Medical Coordinator arranges and/or partners with healthcare professionals regarding medical services, health and safety standards for out-of-home childcare, childcare licensing requirements, disease reporting requirements, immunizations for children, injury prevention for children, medication management, and knowledge of community health and mental health resources for UAC.


Position Responsibilities

* Provide supervision and guidance to the medical team while monitoring daily practices to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and quality standards.
* Perform triage assessments to evaluate patient symptoms and overall needs, determining the level of urgency and coordinating the appropriate medical response or referral.
* Actively participate in case staffings and stakeholder meetings and follow up with recommendations.
* Compile, prepare, submit and maintain accurate records, files, forms, statistics and additional information in accordance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
* Effectively communicate with ORR Medical team as needed.
* Ensure medical services are completed and documented in the UAC Portal within required timeframes and in accordance with agency policy, DFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
* Assume on-call duties after regular business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
* Complete and submit reports within required timeframes.
* Guide and direct medical staff and provide timely and adequate feedback.
* Provide health education and training for staff and UAC.
* Maintain inventories of medical supplies, prescription medications, and over-the-counter medications.
* Develop and implement a fail-safe plan regarding medication administration, counts, label accuracy, and reporting of medication errors.
* Maintain the safety and well-being of children through supervision, adherence to program policies, and appropriate interventions. This may include the use of approved crisis management techniques, such as physical containment, when necessary to protect the child or others from harm.
* Schedule, accompany and/or provide transportation to medical appointments when needed.
* Ensure medical services are provided in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma informed care to UAC.
* Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge of agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
* Actively participate in the enhancement and/or improvement of the living and working environment for residents and employees.
* Attend administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities as scheduled.
* Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge of agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
* Demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity of cultural norms, values and heritage.
* Be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
* Adhere to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
* Protect the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors’ names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of investigations, and financial information.
* Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
* Take a solution-oriented approach in interactions and undertakings and promote collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
* Attend and successfully complete a 10‑day New Employee Orientation; failure to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
* Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Requirements


Minimum Qualifications


Education

* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Medical Sciences or related field; or
* Higher health‑related qualification (e.g. Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner)Experience


Experience

* Minimum of 1 year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
* One-year experience working with children in a child welfare or social‑services setting preferred.
* Supervisory experience preferred.


License and Credentials

* Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
* Reliable transportation.
* Valid driver license.
* Valid vehicle insurance.


Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine‑preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children

* Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) or born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) or titers indicating varicella immunity or documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
* MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) or titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
* DTaP or TDap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one TDaP dose in adulthood.
* Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.


Minimum Knowledge and Skills

* Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language.
* Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel) and a variety of online database systems, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology.
* Strong analytical and organization skills and abilities.
* Must be able to read and interpret policy, procedures and standards.
* Must be detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, work well independently and on a team.
* Must have good written and verbal skills.
* Must have good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
* Must be able to remain calm and composed in crisis situations.
* Supervisory experience preferred.

Travel requirements for the position includes 0% local and 0% overnight.
