Responsibilities and duties of the Field Engineer Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will: Perform field-based inspections, planned, and reactive maintenance across diesel and gas generator sets, switchgear, transformers, control systems, and fuel infrastructure. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a zero-harm culture. Maintain accurate maintenance records and asset data while supporting reliability and performance improvements. Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and control system faults. Support asset improvement projects and readiness for dispatch events. Supervise contractors, manage spares and stock levels, and share technical knowledge across the team. Other duties as required. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: Time-served Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (or equivalent proven experience). Experience maintaining diesel or gas generator sets, rotating equipment, or heavy plant. Strong understanding of safe systems of work and isolation procedures. Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills. IT-literate with experience in maintenance management systems. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites. Relevant engineering qualifications, such as NVQ, HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, are desirable. Experience with generator control/protection systems or HV switching is a plus (training can be provided).
