Job summary
Barnsley Healthcare Federation is seeking a part-time (full-time considered) Clinical Coder to support our 4 practices from a central base. BHF operates a cohesive and sustainable primary and social care model, designed to enhance patient experiences.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Clinical Coder or similar position, with a good general education. We seek someone with good teamwork, a patient-focused outlook, and high attention to detail.
There is some flexibility in the days and hours offered for the right candidate; however, you must be available on Mondays and Fridays.
Main duties of the job
1. Clinical coding of patient medical records from hospital clinical correspondence.
2. Review patient records and accurately produce a summary of the patient's medical history.
3. Read-coding data on SystmOne into the patient record.
4. Identify relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, code appropriately, and complete any detailed actions.
5. Review all clinical letters ensuring they are processed appropriately, in line with protocols.
6. Review progress of summarising, ensuring practice targets are achieved.
7. File and store records as required.
8. Photocopy documentation as required.
9. Action all incoming emails and mail in a timely manner.
10. Scan patient-related documentation and attach scanned documents to patient healthcare records.
11. Input and extract data as required to support practice reports.
12. Maintain a clean, tidy, and effective working area at all times.
13. Open and close the premises with colleagues.
14. Support the reception with other duties during busy periods, including:
* Dealing with visiting patients and handling their queries.
* Completing workflow and system tasks.
* Handling prescriptions, appointment bookings, and patient registrations.
* Preparing clinical rooms.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good general secondary education.
Experience
* Experience in an NHS environment, using SystmOne, and undertaking Clinical Coding tasks.
* Experience working in an office environment in an administrative or secretarial role, including maintaining databases.
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
* Proficiency with Office programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
* Ability to draft and compile reports.
* Effective liaising with staff and the public.
* Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
* Ability to produce quality correspondence and reports.
* Ability to minute meetings.
* Data analysis and interpretation skills.
* Full UK driving license.
