Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Patient Flow Coordinator to join our joint services within DPU and SDAU. The Day Procedure Unit (DPU) at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides pre and post operative nurse-led care for a wide range of surgical specialities, including Urology, Gynae, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Oral, General Surgery, Vascular and Pain Management. The Same Day Admission Unit (SDAU) is a dedicated department which admits and prepares adult patients for elective surgery. Our teams work closely with other departments in the Trust, including the Day Procedure Unit, Preoperative Assessment, Surgical Specialty Teams, Anaesthetics, Theatres and wards. Responsibilities
* Manage patient flow within the unit daily.
* Proactively plan patient booking, identify capacity shortfalls and take steps to ensure capacity is fully utilised.
* Develop links with the inpatient Patient Flow team to proactively support the smooth running of theatres in the Main suite and DPU.
* Facilitate patient transfers to support a smooth and constant throughput of day-case patients within the Unit and Trust.
* Manage patient pathways by communicating with patients, booking teams, inputting data on ORSOS and PAS, and liaising with medical teams where appropriate.
Working pattern and expectations
The role requires working 8-hour shifts, Monday to Sunday, between 7:00 and 20:00, with a mix of 7:00–15:00 or 12:00–20:00 shifts, excluding bank holidays. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the team, independently and under supervision, and adhere to Trust and Department policies and procedures to ensure patient pathways are correctly managed. Data collection and processing are vital for service improvement; you will assist the managing team with regular audits.
Qualifications and requirements
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt to evolving service needs, including establishing working relationships with the wider team.
* Experience or ability to develop skills in patient bed booking systems and capacity management.
* Strong communication with patients, booking teams, and medical staff; familiarity with ORSOS and PAS data entry is desirable.
* Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care on the day of surgery.
