About the role

We are recruiting a Residential Care Worker to join the dedicated team at Merrimans House, our nine-bedroom respite service for adults with learning disabilities. This is a Part‑time role (25 hours per week) on rota basis – early and late shifts, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Merrimans House provides a warm, caring, comfortable, and fun environment where service users can develop their independence, learn new skills, and enjoy meaningful experiences - while their caregivers benefit from a well‑deserved break.

As a Care Worker, you will play an important role in delivering person‑centred care and support tailored to each service user’s needs. Working as part of a supportive team, you will help create a positive atmosphere that promotes dignity, choice, and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

* Provide day‑to‑day care and support to service users in line with their individual care plans.
* Support service users with personal care, mobility, communication, and daily living activities.
* Encourage independence and participation in social and recreational activities.
* Ensure that all care provided meets essential standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
* Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality at all times.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to ensure consistent and coordinated care.
* Work flexibly on a rota basis, including weekends and public holidays.

About you

You will have:

* Previous experience supporting adults with learning and/or physical disabilities (essential).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to individual needs.
* A caring, patient, and respectful approach to supporting others.
* Commitment to promoting dignity, equality, and inclusion in all aspects of your work.
* The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow established policies and care standards.

Additional information

Please note that this post is open to female applicants only due to an occupational requirement exception under Schedule 9 (Part 1) of the Equality Act 2010. This post is not open to male applicants.
