The South Shore YMCA Day Camps are a place where campers aged 3-15 come to enjoy a wide range of summer adventures. Camp is a unique place where we have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of many youth. Along with the fun that camp provides comes great responsibility, long hot days with many different challenges. In addition to practical experience and training, you must have a strong desire to work with youth. Working with us requires you to be a positive role model for youth and a compassionate leader amongst campers and staff at all times.
LIT COORDINATOR: Applicants must be at least 20 years old. The LIT Coordinator is responsible for supervising up to 10 campers ages 13-15. They are responsible for planning and facilitating leadership activities for their group. The LIT Coordinator is responsible for supervising LITs as they support groups and lead their own activities. They will also be responsible for coordinating where their LIT Camper goes for grouping. Experience and/or certifications in the various specialty camp areas may be required or may greatly further the application process.
Job Responsibilities:
* Facilitating day-to-day camp activities including helping children adjust to the camp setting by providing personal and social-emotional support, facilitating nature and science-based activities, supervising eating times, playing games, singing songs, etc.
* Attending camp meetings and pre-season training as required.
* Working individually and with fellow camp staff to plan and lead nature-related activities that are factually accurate, age-appropriate, engaging, and fun.
* Submitting written lesson plans and supplies lists for each session.
* Adhering to safety principles outlined in pre-season training.
* Providing parents with clear communication about their children’s activities.
* Maintaining a clean and hazard-free camp area and any space used by your group.
* Participating in weekly staff meetings.
* Creating and implementing LIT (Leadership in Training) activities and training.
* Coordinating LIT Camper group placements during experiential weeks of the session.
Program Management
Assist in planning and executing programs to meet community needs and fulfill YMCA objectives. Ensure compliance with all related areas including EEC licensing procedures, QRIS standards, and promote YMCA Healthy Eating Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. Provide accommodations for children with disabilities as needed, according to EEC and ADA guidelines.
Staff Engagement & Development
Assist in supervising program participants in accordance with organizational policies, EEC regulations, laws, and QRIS standards. Communicate effectively with Camp Directors and staff regarding requirements.
Membership Engagement & Development
Build relationships with families and members, respond to inquiries, recruit new families, and connect them to YMCA programs.
Facility Management
Work with Camp Directors and staff to ensure facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
Volunteer Development
Assist in engaging and working with volunteers.
Community Involvement & Support
Participate in fundraising activities and collaborate with community organizations to strengthen support and build community.

Program Duration: The camp operates Monday through Friday from June 17 to August 23, 2024. Applicants should be available for the entire season.
Qualifications
* Experience with school-age children is preferred (LIT Coordinators work with campers aged 13-15).
* Ability to develop positive relationships with staff, children, families, volunteers, and community partners is critical.
* Effective management skills and a positive attitude towards diversity are essential.
