Requirements

Your main day-to-day responsibilities will be:


1. Identifying, developing and using best practices and standards to design services consistent with the rest of government
2. Advocating for users and understanding user needs to design simple, effective and accessible services
3. Creating prototypes and concepts to communicate and test ideas with users and improving with evidence
4. Experienced with the GDS/ style guide and service design standard
5. Mapping user journeys, processes and visualising design problems
6. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team by sharing design work, and participating in research

You will also be expected to carry out the following day to day activities:


7. Advocating for user-centred design and being an active part of the Design community within Methods and across government to share ideas, best practices and proactively help and support each other
8. Take responsibility for your own learning and development and seek opportunities to improve your knowledge and experience
9. UX project delivery support and guidance
10. Coaching and mentoring of graduates or those in training programs
11. Upskilling team members and those directly on the same project
12. Support training and development plans with Head of UXD, and other senior UXDs
13. Support Communities of practice, running and/or organising these as required
14. Supporting the continued development of the UXD team culture
15. Supporting and developing career progression opportunities
16. Organising and/or running team retros, design crits and other meetings
17. Support permanent staff hiring when required

Essential Skills


You’ll have a demonstrable passion for user experience design, with the following skills or proven experience in:


18. Talking about design and ideas in a way that other people understand
19. Understanding how the internet works and the technology constraints that may need to be considered in design
20. Using your extensive knowledge of visual and interaction design to create usable, accessible and responsive user interfaces
21. Running workshops, participating in discussions and assisting in the facilitation of the design of the service through collaboration with other professions
22. Understanding user needs, participating in research activities and interpreting user research to inform design
23. Sketching, concept creation and designing prototypes at different levels of fidelity
24. Working in an agile environment
25. Coding interactive prototypes using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
26. Designing for users with access needs
