Associate Rail Engineering Trainer/Assessor
Join our growing Qualitrain Engineering Academy in Derby and help shape the future of rail engineering. We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Trainer/Assessor to assist us in the delivery of Level 2 and 3 Rail Engineering Apprenticeships and commercial projects.
Location: Derby (travel to other locations required)
What You’ll Be Doing
* Deliver high-quality teaching, coaching, and assessment for Level 2 and 3 Rail Engineering Apprenticeship programmes.
* Use approved resources to conduct structured sessions and assessments in mechanical and electrical rail vehicle installation.
* Provide timely and individualised feedback to learners and their line managers.
* Maintain accurate learner records including attendance, progress reviews, and assessment documentation.
* Support learners in developing competencies such as torque tightening, earth bonding, cable looms, and interpreting technical drawings.
* Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, awarding body requirements, and funding provider documentation.
* Work collaboratively with employers and internal teams to resolve issues and support learner progression.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and attend team meetings and standardisation events.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Level 3 teaching qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS or above)
* Vocational qualification at Level 3 or above in mechanical or electrical engineering
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in the rail sector (train-specific)
* Strong understanding of safety-critical working environments
* Dual-discipline experience (mechanical and electrical)
* Experience delivering training in commercial or apprenticeship settings
* Familiarity with Competency Management Systems
* Experience with lifting and general engineering practices
