About Us

The Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries (CMCI) sits within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King‘s College, London. CMCI is a vibrant, research-led department that approaches a new subject area with traditional academic rigour.

We approach culture, media and creative industries from a variety of different perspectives achieving both breadth in scope and depth in specialisation. Our academic staff are drawn from a variety of disciplines across the arts, humanities and social sciences, focusing our collective expertise together from a range of complementary and converging viewpoints.

Our research impact and research environment were rated as either ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*) in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) results.

About The Role

The Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) seeks to hire a Lecturer in Culture, Media & Creative Industries Education. We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, and socially-engaged education, and the ongoing diversification of our curriculum.

CMCI is distinctive in its commitment to interdisciplinarity, and the position requires teaching across a broad range of areas. Indicatively, the post holder may be asked to contribute to team-teaching on a range of modules, such as: 4AAIC005 Creative Institutions and Industries: Policy and Politics; 4AAIC006 Creative Institutions and Industries: Practice and Management; 4AAIC007 Representation in the Creative Industries; 5AAIC002 Creative Living and Learning; 5AAIC005 Cultural Policy and Governance; 5AAIC009 Youth Cultures; 6AAIC003 Sustainability, Care and Culture; 6AAIC008 Creative Citizenship; 7AAIAM06 Global Media Industries: Perspectives and Approaches and 7AAICM01 Research Approaches and Dissertation. However, the exact teaching allocation will be discussed upon appointment. The post holder will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Culture, Media & Creative Industries (or a closely related discipline), with an excellent knowledge and understanding of culture, media and creative industries. They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework.

This is a full-time post on a fixed term contract for 12 months starting from 1st September 2025.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria

* PhD qualified in an area closely related to culture, media and creative industries
* Excellent knowledge and understanding of a relevant field of expertise closely related to culture, media and creative industries
* Experience of teaching relevant subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with evidence of innovative and effective teaching to small and large groups, in person and online, and the ability to engage and inspire students of diverse and international backgrounds.
* Commitment to student learning and welfare, including providing academic advice, assessment feedback, and pastoral support (e.g. as a personal tutor)
* Experience of academic administration (e.g. module leadership; sitting on committees etc.)

Desirable criteria

* Completion of appropriate training (e.g. Higher Education teaching and learning/academic practice; equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion)
* Research and teaching interests and expertise which focus on Southeast Asia, East Asia, Africa, and/or the Global South

Grade and Salary: £44,355 - £51,735 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance
