The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Practice Supervisor to join our Safeguarding Teams. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of Social Workers, Early Career practitioners, and Children and Families Workers. This role is central to our mission of providing effective support and intervention while navigating the current landscape of national social work reforms.
Our Model of Practice
City of York Council is dedicated to our ‘Building Brighter Futures’ model. This systemic, strengths‑based approach utilizes tools such as Signs of Safety and Family Finding. York is moving towards embedding the National Framework into day‑to‑day practice, ensuring our work is outcome‑focused and aligns with the latest statutory guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023.

* Provide high‑quality reflective supervision to Social Workers, focusing on purposeful and meaningful intervention.
* Support practitioners in identifying, analysing and managing risk in partnership with families, their wider networks and multi‑agency partners.
* Help lead the transition from the ASYE to the new Early Career Development Programme, modelling expert practice for our newest practitioners.
* Drive family‑led decision‑making and unlock family networks to find the right support at the right time.
* Support team performance, care planning and chair meetings, ensuring that the voice of the child is central to all we do.
About You
You will be a suitably qualified Social Worker (DIPSW/CQSW/Masters/Degree in Social Work) registered with Social Work England.
We are looking for an individual with:
* Substantial experience in children’s safeguarding and, preferably, prior supervisory or management experience.
* The ability to evidence skills and knowledge in line with the National Framework’s outcomes for children and families.
* A passion for achieving stability and permanence while promoting lifelong links with birth families and kinship networks.
