SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – Year 3) Location: Barnet, London Pay: £90 – £100 per day Contract: Full-time | Temporary | Long-term Start Date: May 2026 Teach Now is working with a welcoming and well-resourced primary school in Barnet to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with additional needs. About the Role You will be supporting a preverbal Year 3 pupil with Autism (ASD) and ADHD on a 1:1 basis. The pupil follows an individualised curriculum and spends limited time in the classroom. He is energetic, sensory-driven, and can display impulsive behaviours, including physical reactions when overstimulated. Your primary focus will be to build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil, understand his behaviour patterns, and gradually learn to anticipate and manage triggers. This role requires patience, resilience, and a proactive approach. Key Responsibilities • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the pupils individual needs • Build a positive, trusting relationship to support emotional regulation • Observe behaviour closely and develop strategies to pre-empt triggers • Support delivery of an individualised curriculum outside of the main classroom • Use appropriate strategies to manage impulsive and physical behaviours safely • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, class teacher, and external professionals • Create a structured, calm, and supportive learning environment Requirements • Experience supporting children with Autism (ASD) and/or ADHD • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach • Ability to build meaningful relationships with children with complex needs • Understanding of sensory needs and regulation strategies • Excellent communication and teamwork skills • Resilient, observant, and proactive mindset Desirable • SEN qualification or relevant training • Experience working with preverbal children • Understanding of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or similar communication tools • Experience in a primary school setting What We Offer • Competitive daily pay (£90–£100) • Long-term, stable role with the opportunity to make a lasting impact • Support from a dedicated Teach Now consultant • Access to a well-resourced, modern school environment • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities • A supportive and experienced SEN team This role is ideal for someone who understands that building trust comes first and is passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive. Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training.
