About the Role
We are looking for confident, experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work with a variety of primary schools across Grimsby. This role is perfect for individuals who can take initiative, deliver pre-planned lessons, and offer strong support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour or require a structured, consistent approach.
As an HLTA, you’ll work across different classes and year groups, lead whole-class teaching when needed, and provide support to pupils with a range of behavioural, learning, and social-emotional needs. We offer both day-to-day and longer-term placements to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities
* Classroom Leadership & Teaching
* Deliver teacher-prepared lessons to whole classes
* Lead small-group learning and targeted interventions
* Manage classroom routines and transitions effectively
* Provide clear structure, guidance, and consistency for learners
Behaviour Support & Classroom Management
* Support pupils displaying challenging behaviour in classroom or small-group settings
* Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
* Maintain firm, consistent boundaries aligned with school expectations
* Support pupils’ emotional regulation and wellbeing
* Work collaboratively with class teachers and pastoral teams to promote calm, safe learning environments
Targeted Interventions & 1:1 Support
* Support pupils with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs
* Deliver structured interventions under the direction of the SENCO or class teacher
* Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff
* Encourage independence, confidence, and self-regulation skills
Flexibility & Professionalism
* Adapt quickly to new routines, teaching approaches, and behaviour systems
* Provide support across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 as required
* Be available for both pre-booked and same-day assignments
* Communicate effectively with school staff and your Reed consultant
What You’ll Bring
* Recent, relevant experience at HLTA level or equivalent
* Confidence in leading whole-class teaching
* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
* A calm, consistent, proactive approach
* Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork abilities
* A strong commitment to safeguarding
* HLTA status or proven equivalent experience (highly desirable)
* An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
