About the Role
We are working in partnership with an NHS prison healthcare service in London to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centred mental health care within a secure custodial environment, supporting individuals through assessment, treatment, and recovery while upholding dignity, respect, and human rights.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver safe, effective mental health care in line with statutory, organisational, and professional guidelines, including the safe administration of medicines.
* Assess, monitor, and support patients experiencing mental health distress, including those at risk of self-harm or suicide.
* Take responsibility for clinical decision-making, including referrals to medical staff or external agencies where appropriate.
* Support patients to address factors impacting their mental health, behaviour, and social wellbeing.
* Maintain professional boundaries while building therapeutic relationships within a purposeful caring framework.
* Respond effectively to healthcare and prison emergencies, following established policies and procedures.
* Communicate clearly and collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and prison staff.
* Promote dignity, privacy, and respect for all patients within the constraints of the custodial setting.
Essential Requirements
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration
* Minimum 1 year’s experience working in a prison setting
* Valid UK Prison Clearance
* Right to work in the United Kingdom
* Strong understanding of mental health conditions and therapeutic approaches
* Excellent communication, de-escalation, and risk management skills
* Ability to remain calm, resilient, and effective in challenging environments
Desirable
* Previous experience within mental health or psychiatric care services
