Job Advert Description

WHAT IS A YOUNG AMBASSADOR?

The role of the Young Ambassador is to give a voice to a diverse range of young people

across North Wales by helping them to get their views heard within policing and will create

a platform for young people to delve down into strategic planning.

Through peer-to-peer collaboration, Young Ambassadors will be able to express themselves

freely and speak on behalf of other young people in their community.

WHO CAN JOIN?

We are looking for participants aged 16-24 years who are currently residing in North Wales.

Young people are sometimes portrayed in a negative light in the media, we are therefore

keen to hear from people who are passionate and driven to really make a change for young

people across North Wales, who will be committed to the project and willing to do all the

activities involved. We are also very keen to ensure that the Young Ambassador Programme

is made up of a diverse group of young people reflecting the make-up of the local population,

including those who have direct experience of the police and justice system.

Previous police contact or conviction is not a barrier to application - This role is not subject

to police vetting / DBS check.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To work co-operatively with North Wales Police as follows:

* Advise North Wales Police in community policing matters relating to young people.
* Listen to, reflect, and advocate the often-diverse experience of young people within

North Wales.
* Contribute your own experiences to the wider group.
* Work constructively as part of a team to advise the police and other agencies

MAIN DUTIES:

* To bring your personal experience and knowledge to assist North Wales Police.
* Attend bi-monthly meetings (hybrid - face to face and online) with senior officers from

North Wales Police.
* Be responsible for obtaining the views of other young people in your area through

engagement and consultation. Support will be given in order to carry out this peer-to-peer

consultation.
* Be involved in scrutinising the use of police powers (stop search, use of force,

arrests); complaints and incidents involving young people, provide feedback and make

recommendations to North Wales Police.
* Working as a team of Young Ambassadors will assist North Wales Police in planning events

and youth engagement initiatives. You will be invited to help run these events whenever

possible subject to it not adversely impacting on school / college / work commitments.
* Have a voice in policy making involving and / or affecting young people.
* Have a voice in the recruitment and training process for Police Officers.
* Provide inputs to new police officers around youth engagement and police perceptions

including some who may offer lived experience of police interactions and the criminal

justice process.
* To contribute to the production of written reports when necessary.
* To undertake and contribute to research as and when necessary.

WHAT WILL I GET FROM BEING PART OF THE YOUNG AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME?

* Directly address issues with senior police officers and key partners: Help them to

understand what young people in your area think about police and crime.
* Training opportunities: Confidence building, teamwork, and leadership.
* Opportunities: Have your voice heard in a meaningful and effective way.
* Develop your skills and experience: You will gain valuable skills and experience, which

you will be able to use for your Welsh Baccalaureate, CV, or applications to Further or

Higher Education.
* Become ambassadors for other young people: You will give a voice to young people

in your area by helping them to get their views heard.
* Certificate of recognition: for your involvement in the programme, subject to attendance at

80% of meetings / activities.
* Expenses (travel): For attendance at meetings and engagement events.
* Meet new people: You will meet a diverse range of other young people from the North

Wales area, and work alongside professionals from different organisations.

sector and know of a young person who would be an asset to the programme, please use

the professional's referral form to apply on their behalf. Please ensure referral consent is

obtain from the young person (and parent / guardian if under 18) prior to submission.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT ONCE I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION?

You will receive an email to confirm that we have received your application.

Applications will then be reviewed, and shortlisted candidates will then be invited to

attend an informal discussion about the role.
