Geo-Environmental Engineer / Geotechnical Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Geo-Environmental Engineer or Geotechnical Engineer with at least two years post graduate work experience. The role has a flexible approach to location, blending site work, remote work for reporting or planning, and occasional office visits for monthly meetings.
You must live and work in the UK without sponsorship or visa/work permit requirements, hold a full UK driving licence, and be willing to travel. The role requires confidently managing your own case load of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects from start to finish, proactive project management, client communication, and providing technical solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences or a related subject.
- 2+ years of relevant post-graduation experience.
- Knowledge of ground investigation techniques and BS5930.
- Experience with relevant data management software packages.
- IT competency in Microsoft packages and ability to work independently or with a team.
- Ability to work effectively to deadlines and under pressure.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy of work, effective planning and organizational skills.
- Structured approach to problem solving, with excellent written and verbal communication.
- Awareness of relevant industry legal and safety regulations.
- Able to produce factual or interpretive reports.
- Experience compiling critical data from multiple sources.
Responsibilities
- Travel to meet clients and evaluate sites.
- Organize intrusive investigations, including health and safety aspects, and proactively manage and instruct subcontractors and site operations.
- Complete or supervise site work, e.g., trial pitting, soakage testing, soil logging of trial pits and boreholes to BS5930/Eurocode 7, groundwater/ground-gas monitoring.
- Manage receipt, storage, and preparation of samples for laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols, internal SLAs, project timelines, and disposal procedures.
- Provide a consultative approach to engineering, advising and recommending solutions through proactive communication with clients, subcontractors, and local authorities/EHOs.
- Prepare Phase 1 Desk Studies and occasionally Flood Risk Assessments.
- Conduct Phase 2 intrusive investigations - collect data, write reports, independently prepare factual and interpretative reports, perform basic foundation design including bearing pressure calculations and settlement estimation.
- Carry out qualitative and quantitative contamination risk assessments.
- Implement Phase 3 contamination remediation strategies and validation work, including on-site supervision of remediation and verification reporting.
- Collaborate with engineers and others to deliver quality work.
