We are seeking an experienced and driven Production Manager to lead operations at our fabrication facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of production, health & safety, team performance, and job-level financial management. You will also play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence through the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and modern production planning strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day fabrication and manufacturing activities to meet production targets and quality standards.
Ensure timely delivery of projects, balancing workload and capacity across departments.
Drive continuous improvement in output, efficiency, and quality.
Implement and manage robust production planning, including Heijunka (production leveling), Kanban (pull systems), and material control practices.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant HSE legislation and internal policies.
Promote a culture of safety and proactive risk management.
Conduct regular safety audits and toolbox talks.
Recruit, train, and retain skilled team members in production roles.
Manage attendance, discipline, and performance, conducting regular reviews and appraisals.
Foster a high performing, engaged, and accountable team culture.
Prepare accurate cost estimates for work and lead issuing quotations in with the input from procurement and manufacturing team.
Monitor and manage job-specific financial performance (margin, cost tracking, profitability).
Identify cost-saving opportunities and reduce waste through the implementation of Lean principles.
Lead the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Value Stream Mapping, standard work, etc.).
Develop and maintain systems for capacity planning and load balancing.
Improve scheduling, workflow, and material flow to optimise throughput.
Required Skills & Experience:
Proven experience as a Production Manager/Supervisor in a fabrication or manufacturing environment (metalwork/engineering preferred).
Strong understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing, and experience in real world application
Demonstrable experience with costing, quoting, and managing job-level financials.
Solid leadership experience with the ability to build, motivate, and develop teams.
Proficient in production planning tools, ERP/MRP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of HSE legislation and best practices.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree/HND in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
Formal training or certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (desirable but not essential).
IOSH/NEBOSH qualification (desirable but not essential).
