Location: Nantyglo, Ebbw Vale, NP23 4YF

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Duration: 3+ Months

Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week

Pay Rate: £14.84 per hour

Job Responsibilities

The role involves delivering a flexible service across all frontline activities to meet the needs of the Public Service's work plan. You will work as part of a team to carry out designated job responsibilities and provide flexible support in delivering the Division's work plan across the County Borough. Key areas of responsibility include:

* Street Cleaning Services:
* Perform vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and operate any power mechanisms fitted.
* Cleanse streets, pavements, and back lanes according to schedules to meet targets.
* Build effective operational relationships with the public and attend emergency situations as required.
* Highways/Drainage Services:
* Drive council vehicles and operate machinery and plant as needed.
* Engage in kerbing, paving, drainage works, and excavation activities.
* Maintain highway verges, including grass cutting and hedge trimming.
* Grounds Maintenance/Bereavement Services:
* Maintain sports and amenity facilities, including grass cutting and pitch marking.
* Manage cemetery maintenance, including grave preparation and burials.
* Ensure the security and cleanliness of cemetery facilities.
* Recycling & Waste Services:
* Safely drive and operate collection vehicles for waste and recycling.
* Supervise crew compliance with Health & Safety standards.
* Monitor waste collection quality and ensure adherence to the Council's strategy.

Person Specifications

Qualifications and experience required for the role include:

* Essential:
* 3 GCSEs or relevant NVQ Level 1 qualification or relevant work experience.
* HGV Category 'C' Licence and experience in driving heavy goods vehicles.
* Experience in highways works and waste/recycling industry.
* Literacy and numeracy skills for completing necessary documentation.
* Understanding of health and safety practices and confidentiality in staff matters.
* Desirable:
* Experience in supervising a small workforce.
* Knowledge of the Borough and experience in cemetery maintenance.
* Welsh language skills at a desirable level.

Special requirements include the ability to work unsocial hours, including weekends and bank holidays, and willingness to undertake pre-employment assessments. The role demands a high standard of customer service, professionalism, and effective communication skills.
