Deputy Manager - Birmingham Shared Lives
Permanent • Grade C - £35,412 - £44,075 • Consultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review • Working 36.5 hours per week • Location: Hybrid / Citywide (based at The Council House)
We are seeking a Deputy Manager to join our Shared Lives Team, a service that offers adults aged 18+ the opportunity to live with approved carers in their homes. Shared Lives provides long‑term placements and respite breaks, helping citizens build independence, confidence, and community connections. The Shared Lives Service is on an exciting transformation journey, and you will be part of a strong team who by working collaboratively with social care workers, wider partners and communities will continue to build and shape the Shared Lives offer.
About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will:
* Provide leadership and supervision to the Shared Lives team.
* Deputise for the Service Manager, managing performance, allocating work, and overseeing service delivery.
* Lead on carer recruitment, assessment, training and development.
* Manage a small caseload and contribute to placement planning and quality assurance.
* Respond to complaints, safeguarding concerns and service needs flexibly including occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.
* Liaise with external agencies including CQC and represent the service at local and national forums.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience working with adults with support needs in care or community settings.
* A Level 4 qualification in Care or Management (e.g. NVQ4, DipSW, RGN, OT).
* Understanding of CQC regulations and safeguarding practices.
* Confident communicator, motivator and team player.
* Strong organisational, IT and report‑writing skills.
* Resilience, adaptability and a proactive approach to service development.
