About Us
Welcome to GScan, we're pioneering the future of non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring with the most advanced technology on the market. Using cosmic rays (muons), our muonFLUX system can see inside critical infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, and buildings—detecting issues like corrosion and other hidden defects with unprecedented clarity.
Our groundbreaking technology is the only solution capable of detecting particles that pass through every material, including concrete and steel with dimensions more than 5 meters, producing highly accurate 3D models that deliver 30x greater accuracy than industry standards. For the first time, asset owners can make proactive, data-driven decisions to maintain their infrastructure in safer, more cost-effective, and sustainable ways. Here's a video explanation. Join the team that’s transforming the future of sustainable infrastructure!
Job type: This is a hybrid, customer-facing engineering role combining technical pre-sales, project delivery, and hands-on fieldwork.
GScan's location: Our main offices are in Estonia (Tallinn and Tartu), and Cambridge, UK.
Your mission
As the interest and demand for this technology are rapidly growing, we are establishing a stronger presence in the UK to meet this increasing demand and support our expanding projects. We’re looking for a Lead Civil Engineer with structural assessment expertise to lead and support technical pre-sales, project delivery, and partner enablement in the UK market. You’ll be the crucial link between our groundbreaking technology and real-world infrastructure applications—ensuring project success from the first meeting to the final scan.
Who You Will Be Working With
You will team up with our Global Lead Civil Engineer, Sander Sein, and work closely with our local UK team, Edward Wilkinson and Graham Kneller. As you help advance our cutting-edge technology, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of experts, including particle physicists, electronics and hardware engineers, ML/AI specialists, software developers, and UI/UX designers.
Key Responsibilities
* Driving the adoption of this breakthrough technology across UK bridges.
* Take the technical lead on proposal preparation, deployment planning, and on-site inspections.
* Act as project manager during deployment projects in the UK.
* Be the industry-facing spokesperson—speak at conferences, author white papers, and represent GScan at UK events.
* Translate field experience into insights for product development, guidelines, and roadmap decisions.
* Collaborate with sales to develop customer-specific solutions (project plans, feasibility, ROI).
* Work closely with in-house teams and external partners.
* Ensure compliance with UK/EU guidelines for civil infrastructure inspections.
What are we looking for?
Nobody Is Perfect, And We Don't Expect You To Be One. You're Likely To Succeed If You Meet ~70% Of The List Below
* Background as a Structural Engineer with a strong track record in bridge projects.
* 5–10 years in civil engineering or infrastructure inspection roles.
* Strong understanding of non-destructive testing methodologies and industry standards.
* Experience contributing to or managing complex, interdisciplinary projects.
* Confident in client-facing roles, technical sales, and stakeholder communication.
* Familiarity with CAD, 3D modelling, or structural analysis software.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe for on-site inspections, customer meetings, and events.
We Also Consider Beneficial
* Broader exposure to buildings, geotechnical structures (e.g., tunnels, mining), or oil & gas infrastructure.
* International experience. The role also offers the opportunity to work beyond the UK, with potential assignments in countries such as the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Japan, and more.
Language Requirements
Fluency in English (spoken and written); German is a strong advantage.
What makes working at GScan unique?
An opportunity to change the world & shape industry standards. Work with real global innovation and technological breakthroughs where a significant amount of decisions have not been made yet. Your work will influence new norms in infrastructure safety, maintenance, and digital modelling.
Solve complex technical challenges. Collaborate with our Lead Civil Engineer, physicists, hardware engineers, and project and data scientists to refine how scanning is applied in real projects.
Work together with industry leaders. With a strong interest in our cutting-edge technology, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with companies like UK National Highways, AtkinsRealis, Connect Plus, and VSL, working on high-profile projects that shape the future of infrastructure inspection and maintenance.
Create real impact. Help stakeholders of built world management to prevent failure, reduce costs, and dramatically cut CO₂ emissions.
Go beyond conventional NDT. Apply your civil engineering expertise with cutting-edge scanning that reveals what others can't see.
Grow with purpose. Join a mission-driven deep tech start-up during an exciting early (yet not too early) stage. Our team has grown to 40+ talents, and we have successfully raised 6mln+ seed investments (supported by 12mln+ in grants). We've just finished seed round financing and received a UK grant with Cambridge University.
End-to-end visibility. Unlike in siloed engineering roles, you'll be involved from concept to deployment—pre-sales, planning, field testing, and project delivery.
Join GScan and bring your structural expertise to a technology that’s redefining how the world sees infrastructure!
