Responsibilities
:
1. Responsible for the architectural design and specification of thermal systems for Gordon Murray Technologies electric and hybrid vehicles.
2. Perform the role of HV thermal systems in-house expert. Create and evolve a development roadmap for thermal solutions, capturing inventive heating and cooling solutions for HV components. Explore possibilities for marginal gains, in order to push the limits of what is technically possible.
3. Identify and develop IP that can be leveraged by Gordon Murray Technologies to create innovative products.
4. Define optimal solutions for GMT projects and translate these into requirement specifications that can be presented to suppliers and partners.
5. Execute and interpret 1D simulation and testing to aid selection of appropriate technologies.
6. Ensure that the technical strategy and vision of the solution is translated to relevant stakeholders, including Project Engineers who will be instrumental in delivering the technical solution.
7. Support of Project Engineers throughout the project lifecycle, which will include periods of taking responsibility for development activities during a vehicle development programme.
8. Maintain technical oversight of all programmes to ensure that key components (e.g. structure, controllers, thermal) are correctly located and packaged in accordance with vehicle requirements.
9. Act as the authority in system review, verification & validation activities including leading FMEAs, DVP planning and ISO compliance.
Experience & Qualifications:
10. Significant experience of thermal systems within an automotive (ideally EV) engineering environment.
11. Ability to perform hand calculations and 1D simulation to right size thermal systems in line with vehicle requirements.
12. Demonstrable understanding of EV architectures and underlying principles and technologies including power electronics, coolant routing, serviceability and control strategies.
13. Experience of project engineering with Tier 1 suppliers, preparation of project documentation and reports. Risk management, mitigation and recovery planning.
14. Working knowledge of associated systems such as Batteries, Charging Systems, LV Control and Gearboxes.
15. Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma or similar framework (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP etc) and full product lifecycle activities.
16. Ability to communicate the requirements of the vehicle programme to a supplier and manage the cost/benefit/compromise when adapting and enhancing existing and new technologies.
17. Inspiring, articulate, self-motivated, and able to work well on own initiative. Able to influence and align stakeholders to our aspirations and vision moving forwards.
18. Possession of an appropriate honours engineering degree. Other recognised engineering qualifications combined with relevant significant experience will be considered.
19. Full driving licence is essential.

20. To perform any other duties that may well be reasonably expected within the remit of the role.
21. To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility.
22. In addition to the above responsibilities for Gordon Murray Technologies, the job also involves similar duties to be conducted for any future subsidiary companies within the Group.
