Summary
**Important notice**
In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.
As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.
What it's like to work here
We're looking for someone to join the small team at Orford Ness, as one of our Rangers. Reporting to the Lead Ranger, you'll be delivering Conservation work while prioritising the LBBG project that has been taking place on this unique place on the Suffolk Coast for the last four years.
You'll work as part of the property Duty Management team, including weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis. You'll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.
What you'll be doing
As a part of the S&E Coast portfolio Ranger team you will be delivering a program of practical work and visitor management, surveying & monitoring of species, and working alongside our teams of volunteers.
Responsible for day to day practical and technical management of a countryside property, including equipment maintenance, habitat management, ecological monitoring, visitor experience and site presentation. As part of a small Ranger team supporting our Strategic “Restoring Nature” focus, you'll be adaptable and willing to step in to help across the property as well as the wider portfolio.
You’ll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, Volunteers, contractors and partners.
You’ll be responsible for helping with excellent communication of our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, through events, guided walks and engagement with local communities.
You'll work as part of the property Duty Management team, including weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis.
Due to the location of Orford Ness you will also need to be comfortable working on/near water and be happy to train towards RYA Powerboat 2 qualifications (if not already held).
