Position Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for embedding Power BI reports into a secure, multi-tenant web application, ensuring row-level security (RLS) and role-based access are properly implemented. This full-stack role involves integrating Power BI Embedded into a hosted website or software solution, with a strong focus on data protection, user-specific filtering, and real-time or scheduled data refreshes.

A part time of full-time role will be considered for the correct candidate with flexibility of working hours outside of the required core hours of Monday to Friday 09:30 to 15:00. There may be some travel involved with this role.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop client login functionality with secure authentication and role-based access control (RBAC).

•Implement row-level security (RLS) to deliver bespoke reports per individual client, dynamically filtered based on user identity.

•Ensure data updates occur seamlessly, with real-time streaming or scheduled refresh processed.

•Build scalable backend architecture using using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and T-SQL.

•Work with RESTful APIs and large data models, optimising performance, scalabilityand reliability.

•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support client specific reporting and data requirements.

•Maintain strong documentation,code quality standards and development best practices.

•Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy regulations, and cybersecurity standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO27001).

Required Skills and Experience

•Proven experience as a Full-Stack Developer, Software Engineer, or similar role working across frontend and backend.

•SQL Server and T-SQL (via SQL Server Management Studio) API integration and RESTful API

•Experience handling role-based access control (RBAC) and security structures (OAuth, SSO, JWT, etc).

•Comfortable working with large datasetsmulti-tenant environments, and data modelling for reporting purposes.

•Understanding of Power BI data refresh strategies, including:

oScheduled refresh

oDirectQuery

oIncremental refresh

oUse of service principals or embed tokens.

•Strong grasp of front-end/backend integration, user authentication, and dashboard UX.

•Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

•Familiarity with Power BI Admin APIs, embedding tokens, and service principals.

•Experience working in a SaaS or B2B multi-tenant environment, ideally involving secure client reporting or analytics portals.

•Understanding of Azure services relevant to Power BI deployment, including Azure Active Directory, Azure App Registrations, and Azure SQL or App Services.Knowledge of Power BI Embedded licensing models, capacity planning, and workspace/app structure best practices.

•Exposure to cloud deployment pipelines, CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), and modern DevOps practices.

•Background in data engineering, data visualisation, or analytics is a plus (particularly in SQL or Power BI environments).
