A well-established and growing building services contractor based in Cheam is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their team. The company delivers high-quality mechanical installations across commercial, residential, leisure, healthcare, and public sector projects.
Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Estimator will play a key role in the pre-construction team, responsible for producing accurate and competitive tenders for mechanical building services projects ranging from £250k to £10m+. This is a strategic role requiring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed and accurate mechanical estimates, including HVAC, plumbing, public health, and associated systems.

Review tender documentation, specifications, and drawings to prepare costs and methodologies.

Conduct site visits where necessary to gather project information.
*
Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, building strong working relationships.
*
Develop value engineering solutions and alternative design options to strengthen bid competitiveness.
*
Prepare tender summaries, mark-ups, risk registers, and handover documentation for the delivery team.
*
Assist with bid interviews, presentations, and client meetings.
*
Collaborate with design, commercial, and project teams to ensure smooth pre-construction workflow.
*
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry pricing, materials, and technological innovations.
Requirements
*
Minimum 10+ years’ experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services or M&E sector.
*
Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical services design principles.
*
Proven ability to produce accurate estimates and win successful tenders.
*
Excellent commercial and contractual awareness.
*
Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel essential).
*
Strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
*
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
