Widmer End
Buckinghamshire Council
Assistant
Posted: 26 July
Offer description

Buckinghamshire Libraries are looking for a Library Resources Assistant to join our friendly team in the High Wycombe Area, based at Hazlemere Library. We seek individuals who share our focus on customer service and enjoy engaging people with services that can enrich their lives.

The salary advertised is the grade level for the role. The actual salary will be pro-rata to 3.5 hours per week.

About us

Buckinghamshire Libraries deliver a modern library service across 29 libraries in communities throughout the county, using a mix of staffed, volunteer-supported, and volunteer-led models.

We are launching Library Flex, an enhanced out-of-hours service allowing self-service access in 8 county libraries, alongside regular staffed services.

About the role

This customer-facing role requires you to be present at a specific site each day and involves working across multiple locations, primarily Hazlemere Library, with occasional travel to other libraries within Buckinghamshire for relief cover.

The role is part-time, 3.5 hours per week, with working days including:

* Mondays
* Tuesdays
* Thursdays
* Fridays
* Sundays

As part of this role, you will:

* Deliver library services directly to customers, handling enquiries about loans, digital services, computer use, and signposting to council services.
* Support library staff with shelving, stock management, and book displays.

This role is based at a fixed location, where most duties will be performed, providing a consistent service point for customers.

About you

We are looking for someone passionate about libraries and their role in community transformation, promoting wellbeing, combating loneliness, and social exclusion. If you excel at helping customers, promoting digital access, and see libraries as community hubs, we want to hear from you.

Other information

Please refer to the attached job summary for more details. We have one position available. For an informal chat, contact Peter Anstiss at [emailprotected].

This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; applicants must declare all unspent cautions and convictions.

We may close the vacancy early once sufficient applications are received, so early application is encouraged.

Our values and culture

We value being Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative, and Trustworthy. Joining Buckinghamshire Council offers a fair, inclusive culture, health and wellbeing initiatives, career development opportunities, and social activities. We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and flexible working to reflect our community.

About the Business Unit

Our Communities directorate delivers key services such as waste management, roads, parks, leisure, cultural services, licensing, and more, focusing on excellent customer service and community engagement.

We seek enthusiastic and committed individuals to help make Buckinghamshire a great place to live, work, and visit, as we continue to improve and deliver services effectively.

We recognise and reward you

We offer benefits including flexible working, discounts, pension schemes, gym memberships, travel discounts, and more, to support a healthy work-life balance.
