Hours: Mon – Thurs 8am – 5pm Fri 8am – 2pm

Purpose of the Electrical Design Engineer Role:
Our client is looking for a detail-driven and experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their busy engineering team in Hull. In this role, you'll design electrical systems and processes for our market-leading vehicles—turning concepts into working solutions that hit the road.
Key Responsibilities for an Electrical Design Engineer:
Designing and refining electrical systems in line with customer requirements and technical specifications
Producing precise and easy-to-understand 2D wiring schematics, 3D models, and Bills of Materials
Ensuring all electrical designs meet current IEE regulations and comply with Whole Vehicle Type Approval standards
Creating technical drawings using standardised formats, industry-recognised symbols, and best design practices
Revising and enhancing existing documentation to reflect updates, improvements, or feedback
Collaborating across departments—engineering, production, and others—to ensure efficient and accurate builds
Actively participating in R&D projects to drive innovation in vehicle electrical systems
Providing real-time support to manufacturing teams during live builds on the shop floor
Key Requirements for an Electrical Design Engineer:
3–5 years of hands-on experience in an automotive electrical environment
Proven background in installation, inspection, testing, and fault finding of electrical systems
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Automotive Engineering
Additional qualifications or certifications in Automotive Electrical Systems are advantageous
Familiarity with IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and Whole Vehicle Type Approval compliance
Experience with AutoCAD
Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot design issues early
Ability to manage time, juggle workloads, and meet deadlines
